After staring at the designs for the new Durham Skate Plaza for a few minutes and dreaming of all the wonderful possible lines I could take in the skate park… I noticed two GLARING omissions. Where is the flat bar? and for that matter, where is the manual pad? Every skate park needs 3 things. A flat bar, a manual pad, and a grind box. I see a grind box, but I don’t see the other two. If you don’t have these things, the only people who are going to be using the park are highly experienced skaters. While this is fun to watch, it is not good for the sport in general. We need those kids to be there… being all gnarly trying to ollie up on a 1 foot manual pad. This is a serious disappointment.
Pillar, and The City of Durham, if you are listening, we need a manual pad and a flat bar…. replace one of the 6 rails on the stairs if need be. We need some stuff for the beginners.

Shut up and learn to spell. Maybe if you weren’t a fruit-booter, you would appreciate the simple beauty of a flat bar. Parks that are made only for professionals don’t do the community any favors.
