Here are a few deets about the new skateboard park.
- Address: 502 Foster Street (Durham Central Park).
- Designed by Pillar Design Studios and will cost approximately $350,000. Pillar Design looks pretty legit. Their website isn’t much, but they do nice work.
- The project was funded through a combination of impact fees and 2005 general obligation bonds.
- The park will be a 10,000 square foot poured-in-place concrete public skateboard park. It will consist of both a quality engaging street area and transitional area with a bowl.
- Features include a floating quarter pipe, launch boxes, step-up bank, 3-seven step stairs with handrails, a street clam, and an 8 inch trog bowl. By the way… what is a “Street Clam”? And what is a “Trog Bowl” for that matter. I feel like I’m the type of person who would know these things considering I ran a skate park for a couple of years.
- Construction is scheduled to begin in May and is projected to be substantially complete in October, just in time for the cool weather.

This is a shot from the top of the hill going down.

Hi there,
durhamskatepark.com – da best. Keep it going!
Zoran
does anyone know if there will be lighting?
is it just for boards or bikes too?
just for boards
no bikes, eh? that’s too bad. what’s the rationale behind that? do bikes damage skate features or do skaters and bike folks just not get along?
is it really no bikes? becasue that is lame and we will ride it anyway.
BIKES!!!!!!!!
D00d finally a decent free place to skate. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having bikers there too, it’s just they tend to chip out chunks with the pegs, making that sexy-smooth concrete all rough and sucky.
amazing your’s blog unparalleled lc,
it would be a shame if they dont allow bikes. do you seriously think that they will chip cement? Look at sk8 cary. That place is all wood, and bikes have not damaged it, and its been open to bikes for years. why an open, unpatrolled park like this wouldnt allow bikes is just stupid. We will be there riding anyway
